Hi there! 💖 I know all of you have been going Hi there!
💖
I know all of you have been going through so much lately and this formula shortage is so incredibly frustrating.
😒
This should not be happening and steps should have been taken to ensure that this would never happen....but I digress...

I put together a practical do's and don't's for what to do during this time if you can't find the formula your baby needs.

I added links to reputable sources to help you navigate SAFE choices for your baby.

In summary:
✅ Consider alternative formulas similar to the one your baby is drinking (check with your pediatrician first)- there is a link in my bio for possible options ** Some international formulas can be found on our shelves soon- what you need to know
✅ If your baby is on a cow's milk based formula and is otherwise a healthy 6 months + baby, according to the AAP you can give whole cows milk for a few days (no more than one week) to your baby along with iron fortified solids/purees
✅ If your baby is almost 1 year and on a milk based formula, you can switch to cow's milk or toddler formulas

🚫 Do NOT dilute your baby's formula so that you have more. This is extremely dangerous and can cause seizures and even death.
🚫 Do NOT make your own formula following recipes floating around on the internet. These are not recommended and NOT safe.

For more do's and don'ts with links, click the link in my bio. Share with a friend.
I added links to reputable sources to help you navigate SAFE choices for your baby. Hang in there mamas....❤️

Wearing Orange today to end gun violence. This wee Wearing Orange today to end gun violence. This weekend is wear orange weekend to honor the victims of gun violence.
🧡
I’m not going to lie, I’m having a hard time processing all the gun violence happening in our country.
💔
No one should live in fear of being a victim of gun violence. These last series of events starting with the shooting in Buffalo, the Uvalde shootings and then lastly the shooting of doctors and innocent bystanders.
🧡
We should be able to go grocery shopping without fear-

Our kids should be able to attend school without worrying about a shooter. 😥

Today I wear orange with my community to honor the victims of these senseless deaths.
🧡

Hope is optional but available to everyone. 💗 T Hope is optional but available to everyone.
💗
These last few days of watching what is happening in Ukraine have been extremely difficult. Especially as it is happening right after the world has dealt with so much grief and pain in a pandemic.
💗
It’s hard for me to process it sometimes. It’s hard for adults, so imagine what it’s like for kids. They are witnessing so much.
💗
Talk to your kids about what they see.
Limit the news and what you listen to and watch
Be aware of the conversations you have that they may be listening to.
Watch for changes in behavior that can indicate anxiety or sadness.
Ask them questions.
Sit with them a little longer at bedtime.
Put your phone away and be present.
💗
Sadly, we can not control the actions of others and some things are so difficult to understand, especially war.
💔
But the truth is that there are ALWAYS more good people than bad. So look for them, be them and focus your attention and your thoughts on them.
💗
Today, wherever you are, whatever you may be going through, remember to never lose hope.
💗
Thinking of all of you tonight.

Good Morning! ☀️ Celebrating a Fourth Grade t Good Morning!
☀️
Celebrating a Fourth Grade teacher in Kansas named Rachel Harder.
📚
In the beginning of this school year she reached out to parents and let them know that if their child was:
✅Going through something stressful at home
✅Didn’t have a good night sleep
✅Was struggling through a personal private or family issue
✅ Any other situation that the parents were worried about as they dropped off their kids at school

To simply send her an email with the subject line saying “Handle with Care”. 💗 No details necessary, no questions asked.
💗
Just a simple “watch my kid a little extra today” 💗
💗
Kids have struggled through this pandemic more than I think most people realize.
💗
Families have struggled more than we realize.
💗
A simple gesture such as this one is such a special way to send a message to parents that:

❤️Kids often feel sad, scared, unwell, tired, frustrated, angry etc and that's okay.
❤️Normalizing that no one is ok 💯 percent of the time is so important in creating empathy and support for students when they need it.
💗
I really think that this simple email might make the difference between a teacher getting angry at a student on a given day, instead of giving them some grace.
💗
What do you think about a “Handle with Care Day” for young kids? I think parents should have a pass for those days too:)
💗
Have a wonderful day!

Good morning! ☀️ This week we’re talking ab Good morning!
☀️
This week we’re talking about sleep.
😴
Did you know that humans are the only animals that don’t sleep when their bodies tell them too?
🤔
God, the universe, nature created our bodies so intricately and sleep is

One of the MOST important things we can do to stay healthy!

When we sleep our bodies “repair” themselves. It’s kind of like a re-boot.

A lack of sleep can result in a greater risk of heart disease, anxiety, depression, a weakened immune system, high blood pressure, diabetes, etc

Daily it can affect:

✅ Your concentration
✅ Your patience
✅ Your memory
✅ Stress levels
✅ Less likely to make healthy choices like exercising and eating healthy

💗
This post is to share some tips that have worked for me. (I try at least!) when I do these, they help me tremendously!

What are some ways that you help yourself and your kids prioritize sleep?

💗
Have a wonderful day and thanks for being here!

Good morning! ☀️ I hope you’re doing well! Good morning!
☀️
I hope you’re doing well! This morning I’m sharing some information about long haul symptoms of Covid and kids.
🦠
Did your child recently have Covid? Or maybe they had Covid a few weeks or even months ago.
😞
Are they complaining of:
✅ Headaches
✅ Difficulty Concentrating
✅ Chest pain
✅ Body Aches
✅ Fatigue
✅ Change in sense of taste or smell

These are some of the symptoms of long haul Covid and kids are feeling it too.
👧🏽 👦
There is a lot of talk about Long Haul Clinics for adults but only some for kids.

The first thing we need to do is recognize it. In this blog post I share with you the symptoms, what we know and when you need to seek help.

Kids have been the silent sufferers in this pandemic. Most just assume they are having only mild symptoms or none at all and their complaints are dismissed.

They have fallen behind in school, missed many life events, were not protected because they were the last to receive vaccines (and many still can’t receive vaccines) There is a lot we don’t know but we do know that:

✅ Even kids with mild or even asymptomatic Covid can develop Long Haul Symptoms

✅ Teens who received the Covid vaccine have 50% less long haul symptoms than those who didn’t

✅ Overall the long haul symptoms seem to improve with time.

✅ There are on going studies looking at this very problem. If you’re interested in these studies you can read about them In the post.

💗If you suspect your child may be suffering from long haul symptoms of Covid, read my post by clicking in my bio, and look at the resources available popping up around the country.

And if your child has been complaining of weird symptoms lately, pause, listen to them and take them to see their doctor.
💗
I worry about all of these kids. We need to help them and it begins through awareness that there even is a problem. Save this post, share with a friend.

Hi there! 💗 It’s Dr Vainder here! 💗 If you Hi there!
💗
It’s Dr Vainder here!
💗
If you’re a new follower, welcome:) I’m a board certified pediatrician that is passionate about the physical and mental health of kids and parents.
💗
Last week I shared some practical ways to help build resilience in kids. Here’s a summary - there are lots more ways too!
💗
We are living during a time which can leave kids feeling helpless and afraid.
💗
Teaching resilience is so important and begins when your child is a baby.
💗
The first way is by building Competence. Competence is helping your child feel like they can handle a situation.
💗
As a parent your first instinct may be to swoop in and fix things or make it easier for your child when they struggle.
💗
Second is by building their confidence. When kids realize they can do something or learn a new skill, they begin to feel more confident. Confidence builds resilience.
💗
Third is by building connections. Nurturing healthy relationships with family, friends and community helps children feel secure and helps them to grow as a person.
💗
Last, but certainly not least is developing healthy coping skills.
Ask kids how they think they should handle a situation. Kids are very insightful! Help them come up with healthy ways of coping like going for a walk, deep breathing, etc. Also help them focus on what they can control. Their bedtime, the food they eat, moving their bodies. All of it:)
💗
Save this post as a reminder when your child is feeling overwhelmed or struggling.
💗
And remember…it’s okay to not have all the answers, it’s okay to cry 💗 Sometimes all they need is a hug. (Us too:) Share! 💗💗 Have a wonderful Day! #drvcares #resilience #mommysupport #strongkids #parenting #parents #drmom #moms #dads #mentalhealth #pediatrics #pediatrician
Good morning! ♥️ Today is February 4,2022 and Good morning!
♥️
Today is February 4,2022 and it’s also Wear Red Day!
♥️
Wear Red Day started in 2004 to bring awareness to women’s health and cardiovascular disease
♥️
Did you know:
♥️Cardiovascular Disease is the #1 cause of death in women?
♥️ It’s the #1 killer of new moms and accounts for 1/3 of maternal deaths
♥️ Black women have some of the highest rates of maternal mortality
♥️Hispanic women are likely to develop heart disease 10 years earlier than non Hispanics
♥️ Most cardiovascular disease can be prevented with nutrition, moving more & controlling hypertension.
♥️Women are more likely than men to experience some of the other common symptoms- like shortness of breath, nausea, vomiting and back or jaw pain.
♥️
This is why it’s so important to get regular check ups, go to your prenatal appointments.
♥️
Women spend so much time taking care of others that they sometimes forget to take care of themselves until it’s too late
♥️
So today, I wear Red for ME, for YOU, for my FAMILY and for all WOMEN.
♥️
Have a beautiful day and a wonderful weekend.
Stay aware. Share with a friend, make an appointment for a check up with your doctor and take care of you.

Good Morning!! ☀️ Today is National Women Phy Good Morning!!
☀️
Today is National Women Physician Day!
💗 👩🏻‍⚕️
We celebrate it today because today was the birthday of Elizabeth Blackwell. The first woman to receive an M.D. in the United States in 1849.
💗
While that seems so long ago, still only 36% of physicians are women as of 2020. Even less minorities with only 5% Black and 5.8% Hispanic (proud to be in this category)
💗
Becoming a physician is demanding and I saw many of my colleagues go through medical school and or residency either pregnant or with children, since usually people go through this during the time many women choose to have children.
💗
It’s not easy....I for one have had the privilege of being taken care of by some amazing women physicians that have helped me through many stages of my life
💗
Maybe you have too? If you have, maybe reach out today to say thanks...
💗
These last few months have been hard for physicians and many of these are also moms, wives, sisters, friends and loved ones
💗
Today I wanted to let all the women physicians out there know that you are appreciated and your hard work does not go unnoticed.
💗
Thank you for all that you do everyday.
💗
Tag a woman physician that you love or admire and write their name below.
💗
I love to follow and support my fellow women physicians
