Good morning! β˜€οΈ Old habits are hard to break Good morning!
β˜€οΈ
Old habits are hard to break.
It happens to me all the time.
πŸ’—
I start a new routine or try to change something only to find myself going back to my β€œold way” of doing things.
πŸ’—
This used to frustrate me since I used to think I had to be perfect (or at least try to be) at everything I did.
πŸ’—
As I got older I learned to give myself grace. I also learned that one step back doesn’t mean failure - it just means one step back
πŸ’—
So today one step back reminds me that I’m human. It reminds me that some days I just have to maybe take a day to stop and just be.
πŸ’—
So today, I’m sharing this grace with you. If you too are feeling overwhelmed or tired of trying to do it all, I’m giving you a day to just be.
πŸ’—
Tomorrow is a new day
β˜€οΈ
Progress over perfection
πŸ’—
Have a beautiful day
πŸ’—
Drop a heart if you can relate :) πŸ’—

Hi there! β˜€οΈ I hope you’re doing well! Toda Hi there!
β˜€οΈ
I hope you’re doing well!
Today I wanted to talk about what NOT to say to someone that is overweight (specifically your child!)
πŸ’—
It’s a sensitive topic for many and we as parents sometimes without realizing it say things that actually makes our kids resist changing even more!
πŸ’—
Human nature is such that when someone tells you you need to change something the less likely you are to change
😞
Instead when your child or teen says things like β€œI’m so fat” or β€œno matter what I do I can’t lose weight.” (As moms we need to be careful saying this about ourselves in front of our kids! - they may repeat it to themselves!)
πŸ’—

❌ Don’t BLAME them
❌ Don’t LABEL them
❌ Don’t SHAME them
❌ Don’t CRITICIZE them

Instead ask them why they feel that way and what THEY think they can do to change so they can be HEALTHIER!!
πŸ’—
Then encourage small changes and celebrate successes no matter how small.
πŸ’—
Can you relate to this? Do you remember a time when someone told you to do something and it only made you want to do it less?
πŸ’—
Or maybe the opposite, someone said just the right thing and it encouraged you to change!
πŸ’—
If you can remember a time like this, please comment below! You never know who may be reading this today and need to hear this message too!
πŸ’—
Have a beautiful day!

Good morning! β˜€οΈ I think we are all guilty of Good morning!
β˜€οΈ
I think we are all guilty of this, no matter how old or how successful.
πŸ’—
We look around and compare ourselves to others. Moms do this too...they compare their babies to other babies and worry that their baby isn’t as big, as verbal, as smart or as coordinated...
πŸ’—
And while yes, some of these comparisons can be useful and alert someone to a problem, 9 out of 10 times the anxiety is unwarranted.
πŸ’—
See the truth is that development happens at different times for kids.
πŸ’—
β€œDevelopment” also happens at different times for adults too! πŸ˜‰
πŸ’—
Nature tries to teach us this. See when you look up the development of milestones like sitting or walking or talking, you will find a huge variation in what is considered β€œnormal”.
πŸ’—
Even as adults, we continue to do the comparison game as we compare ourselves to others. Who is married, who has kids...who is successful..who is happy...
It’s really exhausting...
πŸ’—
How wonderful if instead of this, you embraced and watched with love as your child developed at their own pace.
πŸ’—
How beautiful and awesome if we did this for ourselves (or for someone else!) as well.
πŸ’—
Change your lens.
Have a beautiful day!

Hi there! πŸ’— So your child has gained some weigh Hi there!
πŸ’—
So your child has gained some weight..
πŸ’—
You don’t know where to start. This year has been difficult for parents and kids. There has been a lot of emotional eating and β€œcomfort” food eating and lots of empty calories in the form of sugary drinks and sweets.
πŸ’—
As parents, there is ALOT you can do to help your child develop a healthy relationship with food
🍎 🍌 🍐 πŸ₯• 🍰 🍦
Here are just a few tips to keep in mind.
πŸ“Œ Stop eating when you feel full. No more β€œfinish your plate!”
πŸ“Œ Don’t reward good behavior with sweets! (Instead reward good behavior with playing outside and visits to the park- or for older kids taking them someplace they want to go!
πŸ“Œ Teach awareness. If your child says they’re really tired ask them when was the last time they ate and what it was. Paying attention to how foods make us feel is sooooo important and often ignored.
πŸ“Œ Don’t tell your child they can never have sugar. This creates shame around eating sweets and results in kids hiding food and hiding to eat food!
πŸ“Œ Instead of celebrating when your child finishes their plate, celebrate when they try new foods!
πŸ“Œ Eat at the table without screens or TV. This helps us all to enjoy our food and pay attention to cues such as feeling full.
πŸ’— Plus eating together is a wonderful way to have more conversations as a family!
πŸ’—
❓: Do you relate? Do you have other ways that have helped your child develop a healthy relationship with food? I’d love to hear about it!
Share below or DM me so I can share more tips in a separate post!

Good morning! β˜€οΈ Happy Wednesday! πŸ’— One of Good morning!
β˜€οΈ
Happy Wednesday!
πŸ’—
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned as a pediatrician is that we all want to be seen, heard and acknowledged.
πŸ’—
Babies, kids, teens, parents & grandparents!
πŸ’—
If you’re struggling with a relationship in your life, whether it be your child, a spouse, a parent or a grandparent, try to acknowledge what they say, let them speak and really listen.
πŸ’—
You don’t have to agree but I promise you that it will make a difference.
πŸ’—
Pick someone today to acknowledge, listen to and be present for.
πŸ’—
Have a beautiful day!

Hello! β˜€οΈ Happy Sunday! πŸ’— For those of you Hello!
β˜€οΈ
Happy Sunday!
πŸ’—
For those of you who don’t know, my parents are both Cuban immigrants. My mother is always telling the kids stories about what she went through when she came to the United States with nothing. She’s often sharing stories of sleeping on the floor and going to bed hungry. Never asking her parents for food because she knew there wasn’t any...
πŸ˜”
The other day, she was sharing with the kids that she remembered having to use a bar soap to wash her hair because there wasn’t enough money for shampoo and conditioner
🧼
My mom was a teen, so I’m sure this was very difficult.
πŸ’—
Coincidentally, my sons found on the Children’s Home Society website that they were in need of toiletry kits for kids in Title 1 schools.
🏫
Title 1 Schools are schools where at least 40% of the students are from low income families.
πŸ’—
The toiletry kits are for students that are in need of basic toiletries. The @childrenshomesociety helps children in the foster care system and are partners with many community schools that these kids attend.
πŸ’—
The program is designed so that if a child needs toiletries they can discreetly ask for a bag at school.
πŸ’—
So....they decided to collect money from family and friends. Everyone was beyond generous and together they were able to make 175 toiletry kits to donate!
πŸŽ‰
Did you know that this was a need? Maybe your community has an organization like this...
πŸ’—
What a wonderful way to give to your community! If you’re in South Florida, you can donate to @helpflkids in many ways
πŸ’—
The truth is that when you give is truly when you receive.

Hi there! β˜€οΈ It’s Friday! Today is also Aut Hi there!
β˜€οΈ
It’s Friday!
Today is also Autism Awareness Day!
πŸ’™
When I was doing my residency in Pediatrics is when I started taking care of kids with autism.
πŸ’™
One of the hardest moments for parents is when their child is diagnosed with autism
πŸ’™
There are so many unknowns and still to this day there are limited resources for these kids and families
πŸ’™
What I can tell you is that NO ONE can tell you how your child will develop and what he or she will or won’t do
πŸ’™
Starting with ABA therapy as soon as possible can help kids and families significantly!
πŸ’™
I’ve also witnessed many of my patients with autism not only graduate from high school but go on to competitive colleges as well
πŸ’™
One is an aeronautical engineer and another is a mechanical engineer
πŸ’™
So today, is dedicated to all of those parents who never stop believing in their kids, show up everyday to therapy even when they’re tired and search and search for the open door when so many are closed for them.
πŸšͺ
Keep on fighting for your kids, continue to be their voice when no one is listening
πŸ’™
I see you! I’m proud of you and I admire your strength
πŸ’™
If you seen one of these moms or dads one day with their kids, don’t stare. Ask them how they’re doing and smile. It may be just what they need that day!
πŸ’™
If you are worried that your child may have signs of autism, visit my website at www.drvcares.com and read post #65 for some guidance
πŸ’™
Have a wonderful weekend!
πŸ’™
Drop a blue heart if you have a special person in your life with autism that you love!

Hi there! ⭐️ I wanted to share with you an or Hi there!
⭐️
I wanted to share with you an organization that I admire and support πŸ’―
⭐️
@childhoodcancerproject Was started by my friend @joanna_segal when her son Joshua was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma in 2015.
⭐️
As you can imagine this was devastating news and Joanna was frustrated to hear that there had been little advancement in the treatment of this aggressive disease
⭐️
So, all the while she was taking care of her son and her family she started the organization @childhoodcancerproject
πŸ’—
She wanted to make sure that any donations made would 100% go to cancer research, and she has kept her promise.
πŸ’—
She is a symbol of hope for all kids battling cancer and I invite you to follow, support and share her story and give if you can
πŸ’—
Together we are stronger and together we can make an even bigger difference in the lives of kids with cancer
πŸ’—
⭐️

Follow @childhoodcancerproject and tag a friend or friends that are supporters of warrior moms who stand up and fight with theirs hearts and souls like Joanna
